Well, Is It Time For A New Party?
January 31st, 2009 — General News
(We really have to keep this posted for everyone to vote.
That means keeping this posted for at least a month's time for everyone who checks in with DP. There are thousands of us out there so lets be respectful and keep it going). To Vote go here:
The way I see it is we are in a political quandry. Things being what they are, Ron Paul is a Republican, because if he was not, he would not get to be Congressman and that we know to be a sad fact.
Bailout money being used for lobbying
January 31st, 2009 — General News
Three days after receiving $25 billion in federal bailout funds, Bank of America Corp. hosted a conference call with conservative activists and business officials to organize opposition to the U.S. labor community's top legislative priority.
Participants on the October 17 call -- including at least one representative from another bailout recipient, AIG -- were urged to persuade their clients to send "large contributions" to groups working against the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), as well as to vulnerable Senate Republicans, who could help block passage of the bill.
...Donations of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars to Republican senatorial campaigns were needed, they argued..."If a retailer has not gotten involved in this, if he has not spent money on this election, if he has not sent money to [former Sen.] Norm Coleman and all these other guys, they should be shot. They should be thrown out their goddamn jobs," Marcus declared.

Senate GOP leader says party must change
WASHINGTON – After crushing defeats in back-to-back elections, the top Senate Republican warned Thursday that the GOP risks remaining out of power in the White House and Congress unless it better explains its core principles to woo one-time faithful and new loyalists.
"Unless we do something to adapt, our status as a minority party may become too pronounced for an easy recovery," Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told the Republican National Committee on Thursday. "The situation is challenging, but it's far from irreversible."

Weekend Listening: Ron Paul - End the Fed
January 30th, 2009 — General News
This is from the LRC podcast - Ron Paul's short talk at the Jeremy Davis Mises Circle. The talk was posted on this site earlier in the week, but with all of Dr. Paul's MSM appearances, it seemed to have gotten lost in the shuffle and didn't get much play. But it is really a great, must listen speech. The Doc is in prime form, happy, laughing, and cracking jokes at the government's expense. Take a listen here, at the Lew Rockwell Show Podcast:
Peter Schiff Rebuttal- A Response to My Critics
January 30th, 2009 — General News
My popularity on television and the internet has led a very small money manager to use his popular financial blog to promote his fledgling business by attacking the recent poor performance of my long-term investment strategy. The post is causing quite a stir and compels me to provide some badly needed context.

More details will be coming in a few days on the C4L website.
FBI Saw Mortgage Fraud Early, Did Nothing
January 30th, 2009 — General News
The FBI was aware for years of "pervasive and growing" fraud in the mortgage industry that eventually contributed to America's financial meltdown, but did not take definitive action to stop it.
"It is clear that we had good intelligence on the mortgage-fraud schemes, the corrupt attorneys, the corrupt appraisers, the insider schemes," said a recently retired, high FBI official. Another retired top FBI official confirmed that such intelligence went back to 2002.
The problem, according to the two FBI retirees and several other current and former bureau colleagues, is that the bureau was stretched so thin that no one noticed when those lenders began packaging bad mortgages into bad securities.
"We knew that the mortgage-brokerage industry was corrupt," the first of the retired FBI officials told the Seattle P-I. "Where we would have gotten a sense of what was really going on was the point where the mortgage was sold knowing that it was a piece of dung and it would be turned into a security. But the agents with the expertise had been diverted to counterterrorism."
Yet more evidence of how disruptive this "war on terror" has been.
Update on Texas C4L Organization
January 30th, 2009 — General News
By Jesse Benton
Great news from Interim Texas State Coordinator Debra Medina on liberty movement organization in the Lone Star State. Leaders in other parts of the country should look at what she is doing and incorporate lessons that would work in thier states.
Freedom and Liberty Building a Strong Coalition in Texas
Individuals in Texas who attended the Rally for the Republic are taking their grassroots activism seriously. Following the Ron Paul Nation event, these Texas patriots held a mini-convention of sorts in the stadium (and ultimately in the parking lot after the stadium lights went out). They committed to organizing the freedom and liberty movement in Texas in order to determine what will be needed to support the cause of liberty in Texas politics and life.
The rally attendees elected four individuals and charged them with the responsibility to call mass meetings in Texas. The "group of 4" as they are being tagged, called a series of regional meetings in preparation for a state convention to be held in Austin, Texas Feb. 28 and March 1.
The primary business of these meetings has been to determine method, number, and names of delegates to attend the state convention to be held at the end of February. It was also in order to consider resolutions (including proposals for organizational structure, affiliation with other organizations, membership requirements, etc.) and any other motions related to the call.
The response has been tremendous with an estimated 500 individuals from across the state participating in the meetings held to date in Dallas, Waco, San Antonio, El Paso, Houston and Harlingen. The final regional meeting is slated for this coming weekend in Lubbock.
Delegates used to a predetermined number of delegates and packets of temporary rules and resolutions have come away praising the work they were able to do in their caucus. "We were determined to promote a true deliberative assembly" said Debra Medina, Texas C4L Coordinator and a member of the "group of 4." We firmly believe that there is wisdom in the deliberative process and presenting a pre-determined set of proposals impedes that. It was difficult to resist calls to "tell me what to vote for" but once we saw those first few caucuses work and saw the enthusiasm and sense of accomplishment people walked away with, we are confident that this process will lead to the development of a cohesive and effective effort to restore liberty in Texas.
Lest you become too concerned about allowing delegates to choose their own delegation size, Texas has determined to weight votes at the state convention: districts vote/state vote for Ron Paul in March 2008 Republican Presidential primary. Each district is therefore free to determine how to best represent itself at this initial convention.
Attendees have commented, "This event certainly exceeded my expectations...the working sessions seemed far more productive than I would have thought possible, given the overall experience level of the participants" and "This was every bit as effective a meeting as I anticipated it would be! It was great to come together with so many familiar faces once again, as well as seeing some new faces, and chart out our political future together! "
